With community service initiatives dating back to 1870, Anglicare is one of Queensland’s most experienced providers. Our range of services is ever-evolving, and is designed to support our community to live happier, healthier lives.
Our team based in Meadowbrook offer a number of community services, and we currently are looking for volunteers to provide companionship and friendship to clients who are in need of social contact - a friendly face and someone to talk to. As a community visitor you will be matched with someone based on your gender and interests.
During your visits, your support may be having a cup of tea, playing cards or games, listening to music, or just chatting - but all visits brighten someone’s day and make a difference to them.
To join us, you will need:
- Interests or hobbies that can be shared with an older person
- Strong social, relationship-building and conversational skills
- Ability to offer support on outings, activities and general tasks
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build rapport effectively
- The motivation to make a difference in other people’s lives
- A patient, friendly and mature attitude that includes respect, care and courtesy towards others
- Ability to work with limited supervision and maintain professional boundaries
Other requirements include:
- Availability – minimum of one shift per fortnight, days and times are negotiable
- Consistency and reliability – willing to commit to an ongoing basis for at least 6 months
- Confidentiality – this is critical to us and you will need to sign a Role Description which includes a confidentiality agreement
- Two (2) referees – who are not relatives and can vouch for your character and interaction in the community (ie. Work Colleague, Church Elder, Community Leader , Doctor or other Professional)
- National Police Clearance – we organise and pay for this if you don’t already have one
