We understand that caring for loved ones is an important and rewarding job, but it can also be time consuming and challenging. At Anglicare, we offer support to carers too! Our respite care is a chance for both carers and loved ones to recharge and to maintain this essential service, we require the support of volunteers.
Our Killara Place Respite Centre in Cleveland is currently looking for volunteer Activities Assistants to work with our paid staff, supporting clients with various activities and group programs. Along with setting up and packing down activities, you will be required to offer reassurance, praise and support along the way – joining in is encouraged! You will also be required to assist with client outings.
To join us, you will need:
- An interest in various activities and hobbies - crafts, cards, trivia and other games, gardening and cooking
- Physically fit with the capability to assist clients on and off the bus and store wheelie walkers
- An empathetic nature and an understanding towards both elderly people and those living with a disability
- The motivation to make a difference in other people’s lives
- Excellent communication skills and showing respect, care and courtesy towards others
- A patient, friendly and mature attitude; showing respect, kindness and compassion
- Flexibility, commitment and ability to work both independently and within a team
Other requirements include:
- Availability – every Saturday between 8.00am and 2.00pm
- Consistency and reliability – willing to commit to an ongoing basis for at least 6 months
- Confidentiality – this is critical to us and you will need to sign a Role Description which includes a confidentiality agreement
- Two (2) referees – who are not relatives and can vouch for your character and interaction in the community (ie. Work Colleague, Church Elder, Community Leader , Doctor or other Professional)
- National Police Clearance – we organise and pay for this if you don’t already have one
